About author

My name is Alexandra Shtromberg. At the moment I am a business student (tax & accounting, programme is called Yritysjuridiikka) at Aalto Business School and work in controls & compliance in telecommunications sector. I have also graduated with masters in law from the University of Helsinki in spring 2017. I enjoy blogging, and I want to make my hobby useful for others as well. I have a degree in translation in the legal field (English - Russian, Russian - English), that makes me an authorized translator in Russian. Experience of language learning for professional purposes has strengthened my aspiration to learn foreign languages and help other people in this uneasy process.

As you may have already guesses, Russian is my mother tongue and I have documents to prove that I actually speak English professionally (no serious tone there, just saying). I also speak fluent German, I understand Swedish more fluently that an average pet in a Swedish-speaking family would do and I learn Chinese. So, in some of my posts I will reflect on general language learning experiences not tied exclusively to learning Finnish. So, if learning Finnish is not on your agenda, you may still find my blog useful!

Me&Finnish

I have started learning Finnish at the age of 13.
I have completed two intensive summer courses in Finnish (Intermediate Course in Finnish, Communicative Finnish in Culture and Society) in years 2015-2016 at Summer University of Tampere, as well as Finnish studies at Petrozavodsk State University.
I have successfully passed YKI Keskitaso test, confirming my upper intermediate level of the Finnish language knowledge in April 2017. This has allowed me to successfully start studies in the only master degree programme taught in Finnish at Aalto University.
